“Somebody has to go polish the stars,
They’re looking a little bit dull.
Somebody has to go polish the stars,
For the eagles and starlings and gulls
Have all been complaining they’re tarnished and worn,
They say they want new ones we cannot afford.
So please get your rags
And your polishing jars,
Somebody has to go polish the stars.”
These two sisters polish the stars for me, everyday. All I need to do is to look closely (to pay attention). Sometimes life feels really hard. It can be a struggle to notice the beauty and the joy and the love and the grace present all around. Even the stars get dull. But, then I see the two of them sitting there collecting “helicopter seeds” – noticing the smallest details of the world in their talk and play. Polishing the stars.
